Important Update from Warmshowers

The following notice was sent via newsletter and posted to social media.  

Important Update:

Thank you for your patience during the last week while we have been experiencing technical difficulties with both the main website and the app functions.  Below is a summary of what has occurred:

This week warmshowers.org experienced a significant surge in the amount of activity, specifically from the mobile apps. In addition, the mobile apps were trying to connect into the website in a way that was causing errors with the private messaging functionality, which decreased the overall performance of the system. To remedy these issues, we have disconnected the apps from the website and are bolstering the security of every access point into the system. 

The security of our platform and access to reliable information remains a top priority at Warmshowers. For the time being, the apps will NOT be accessible.  Please go directly to our website through your browser to access your profile.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.

Current location dosn't work

Hi, My current location dosn't work, is the problem with my mobile or mobile network? 

A few days ago after my trip started in my WS account was a folder Favorites, now is not visible.

This is what was in the Newsletter from April: 
"We will work with the current developers to have the apps updated as soon as possible, with an expected date in May for the notice to go out when the update is complete."

So I guess they won't enable app access again until that product is ready.

I have not been getting email alerts that people have made requests.  I got one today but found several unanswerd requests when I went onto the site

Did the feedback text field just disappear?

(A.K.A. Software maintenance in progress?)

 

-- Edit: No, it didn't, but the user interface is a bit unintuitive in this case. Tried to give feedback via "Filter" page, which of course doesn't work.

Missing favourite feature

I very much miss the app which on iPad and iPhone would be a great help!
And I extremely miss the possibility to mark members as favourites! When searching hosts we find several possible one and want to write to one of them. But just in case the one is not available it would be great to just come back to others in the area which have been marked as favourites before! In the old app this feature existed but never worked well.
Hope some day it will exist!

I still can't login from my smartphone (Androied). Is the App still disconnected? If yes may I suggest to post a frontpage update.

App Login problems

I can login on the ws page with browser but login via app does still not work "Login fehlgeschlagen". Xiaomi Redmi 4x miui global 10.3 andriod 7.1.2

No problem I can still go on the site with the browser.

App and governance

It must be pointed out that the app was previously supported by the community, as was the website itself, as it was architected on free/libre software and the source was published and open. Indeed, I think the app (or at least one earlier version of it) was not just supported by the community but written by it, though I do not have the full history.

The transition of the site to a closed, proprietary base has put warmshowers at the mercy of paid contractors to maintain it and excluded the community from building on it.

The dividends of leadership decisions dating back four years are beginning to accumulate. I hope this hard-won and painful lesson is apparent to the board and they will take action based on it. Given that even the process of selection to the board is now entirely opaque and board members do not respond on these forums, I am very regretfully not optimistic about this.

app release date?

Is the an estimated date that the revised app will be available?

When will we be able to use the app again.  Still can't log on. When travelling this is by far the easiest way to connect to warmshowers and find a host. Often found when the internet was flaky I could use the    app but not connect via chrome.     I've been wondering why I've had a drop off of guests this summer.
